First couple of days at school…

Just finished the first 2 days of Year 11. Bascilly just the normal, a few lectures on expectations, a few changes to the school, and more lectures on how year 11 is so important.  I got VERY good classes this year, Senior English, Maths B, Physics, IPT, Graphics and my Cert 3 in IT. I have friends in all my classes so I’m happy so I hope this will be a good year.
Also a special Hi to Kierran as this will be her first blog she reads.
Oh and I might blog something a little bit more useful next time…

Storing your profile elsewhere [BETA]

A few days ago I decided that I wanted to have all my documents and settings on my server so it didn’t matter which computer I logged into I could access this files. I have done this with window directory services before, but I really didn’t want the hassle of installing a Windows Server or configuring wine to do so. Also it’d mean I’d have to buy Windows Pro rather than home on my clients. I setup samba on my nice freebsd server so I could get a share like… \\fruit\mwheeler\Windows . Samba was easy to install in freebsd. Now just map a network drive using the wizard to a nice letter like U: to \\fruit\mwheeler\ making sure you use the “login using differnt username” or something feature and make sure it reconnects on login. Now for the fun part, some nice registery editing. Located in HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ User Shell Folders are keys that point to where your files are stored just change the keys from  (for example)

 Desktop - C:\Documents and Settings\Michael\Desktop

to…

 Desktop - Z:\Windows\Desktop

There are a few I didn’t change such as start menu and program, basiclly use your common sense, oh and as always, make a backup of your registery first. When you login you may be a “Incorrect Function” error or something along those lines, just ignore it, still works afaik.

Movie Marathon

Last night/This morning, I went to the movie marathon with Jade(my girl friend), Rebbecca and Matt. The movie marathon started at 9pm and finished at around 4.15am and in which time we saw “Epic Movie“, “Night at the Museum“, “Eragon” and last but not least “Borat“.

Epic Movie
4 orphans find themselves holding golden tickets to enter the “Willy Wonka” choclate factory. All goes wrong when they find out that they are going to be used as ingredients in some chocolate bars, the attempt to hide by entering a closet (”Gnarnia”) ect ect ect.
The movie is basically satire of over films all wrapped in one. Good movie and I personally suggest you go see it.

  • Comedy
  • Really good flowing story line
  • A really good laugh

Night at the Museum
Company is lacking funds to keep the current 3 night guards and so they hire a new fit night guard to replace the old. He finds out that everything in the museum turns to real at night because of a curse. All hell breaks loose when the 3 orignal guards attempt to steal some of the museums belongings.
It wasn’t to bad though it was really slow in parts which really made me loose interest. Still a fairly good movie, aimed at kids I think.

  • Good for kids
  • Doesn’t involve thinking

Eragon
Ok, to be honest I missed the story line since I feel asleep in parts but this is how I think it goes. Guy finds dragon egg, guy trains dragon, guy defeats some evil person.
The parts I did see were fairly cool though it’s storyline seemed a little typical and not original. Still go and see though, because it is really cool.
Borat
Borat goes from his country of Kazakhstan to USA to bring back good idea’s for his county and also teach USA about how his country. He falls in love with Pamela and changes from a documentary to a love story.
I enjoyed it, though it does have some nasty pictures in there.

  • Great movie
  • Comedy

I love windows

I dual boot the computer I’m typing this on. Two simple OS, Windows and Ubuntu. Today I admired the power of Windows Xp SP2(or something) home edition. It started with me browsing the network, I came to a folder that had a nice 300mb exe file. Explorer frooze up for a good 5 minutes. Now I know windows happens to have allot of problems network wise, but what I saw as it frooze up was remarkable. Windows for once decided to be humane and instead of letting explorer suffer in pain, it started freezing all my other applications. WOW, nothing moving for 5 minutes. And you know whats even more scary CPU was 99% idle and Memory was only 50% used. Go figgure.

TheSkorm @ PCYC

Ok, I finally updated the “The Skorm @ PCYC” Website. It now has a new layout which is both CSS and HTML valid. YAY!. I’ll add a picture gallery and admin area soon and possibly even boards :>. The whole website has been remade from bottom up usings suggestions and techniques I learned at NCSS.
Anyway I’ve come up with a new python program for you’s though source code will not be revealed. Here is the out put. It’s amazing what you do when between sleeping, LAN’ing, playing spotlight, and just hanging.

 >>> coolcheck(’michael’)
‘This person is kewl’

That’s with my name, now with my sisters.

>>> coolcheck(’zoe’)
‘This person is NOT kewl.’

Don’t you just love python…

I confess…

I should have told everyone this earlier, but now it’s up to the local authorities to decide if I should be punished. For the last few nights I’ve been drinking breakfast juice, in the afternoon. All those good brands “Breakfast, Morning, Wake-up” juices I have drunk at night time…why? It’s just me, that’s what I do, I can’t help that it taste better at night. Anyway, I’m off to a LAN.

Programing a human.

Today I set out atempting to program 2 human brains just for the fun of it. I choose the male brain and the female brain, although it was not hard to choose. Anyway I set my MSN and other IM accounts to busy and start coding after about 2 hour’s and 1 and half pages of code I ended up with the male brain. I used python as it was a simple but good programming language that was still new to me. Yes, I will post the sorce code later, but here’s the output of the brain.

>>> male()
’sex’

Wow, it’s extremly accurate… anyway, I continued my work on the female brain and about 6000 pages and 11 hours of coding the results we’re amazing.

>>> female()
Traceback (most recent call last):
File “”
NameError: female is not definable

I was puzzled why this happened as I had checked my code sevral times over. I decided to give up on the female brain, I gathered it was either designed by a super good company that makes it impossible to reverse engineer or it was made by Microsoft and just spits out random stuff making it impossible to work out what it actully does. Anyway, I’ll post my source on the downloads page later.

Yawn

Today, I woke up with my mum running around screaming and banging on my door saying that the computer isn’t working. I woke up and walked over. My mum uses the username “Allan” for everything even though thats my farthers account. I saw that it was typed in and I pressed enter at the login box. An invalid password or username box displayed. I thought to myself, this can’t be true, my dad never sets a password on his account. I looked more carefully and noticed rather than it saying “Allan” it displayed “Aiian”. I let out a little “LOL” then told my mum her mistake.
